The movie's gritty criminal aspect creates a powerful gripping story.<br/><br/>Sleight is about Bo (Jacob Latimore), an intellectually gifted teen who gets in way over his head trying to provide for his little sister Tina (Storm Reid) after the death of their mother.<br/><br/>Director, J. D. Dillard made a great choice in casting Jacob Latimore as Bo in the lead role. Latimore has a charismatic charm on the big screen that draws the audience attention. This movie will definitely raise Jacob Latimore's star power in Hollywood and make everyone take notice. I tend to put a lot of store in Metacritic and IMDb scoring, and chose to see this film based on those. The acting and production values are adequate, but the story is completely preposterous. Not only does it completely disregard any notion of physics. but assigns zero value to the brilliant sleight of hand the protagonist displays, and instead shifts into unnecessary and gratuitous "hood" action. It even largely ignores its own bizarre reality. Worst of all, the protagonist seems to have no moral compass at all, willing to screw anyone without the slightest regret. I give it a two for being competently made, but the script deserves a -10. Disgusting. The director builds to one big, beautiful revelation. But the story he tells in the lead-up doesn’t distract so much as it politely asks you to stand up so that it can place the trick card under your ass.
